Catherine's Traditional Festive Service of Carols Honours Charity Helpers

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will hear a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including award-winning actors.

Centred Around Compassion and Love

The focus of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Performance and Potential

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the charity, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be people from various age groups.

That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
