It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
