The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
